Pastor's Corner

Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me, for in you my soul takes refuge; in the shadow of your wings I will take refuge, till the storms of destruction pass by. I cry out to God Most High, to God who fulfills his purpose for me. He will send from heaven and save me; he will put to shame him who tramples on me. Selah God will send out his steadfast love and his faithfulness!” (Psalm 57:1–3, ESV)

Our hearts should be like the psalmist. Storms of destruction pass us by. A most unwanted reality, who wants a storm passing through? This isn’t a high pressure system bringing life giving rain, but a storm of destruction. Rather that lament, the psalmist paints a picture of faith filled cries.  Crying out in angst, but also with our souls taking refuge in the shadow of His wings.

When the weather of our lives is sunny we need to prepare our hearts for storms of destruction and trampling of the enemy. So that when these difficulties actually pass our way we might pray with a fervent faith. Remember in the torrents of destruction a few things, engrave these four truths from this psalm on our hearts if possible:

  1. God will fulfill His purpose for us.
  2. He will send from heaven and save us.
  3. He will judge those who trample us.
  4. He will send out His steadfast love and faithfulness.

It is amazing what manner of things can be endured. Matters that cannot be changed. There are many issues in life that we can influence. But there are even more things that are immoveable. May the Lord be merciful. May our souls take refuge in Him.
